> Short answer: Choose billing software by checking 9 things: honest monthly pricing with no hidden fees, Urdu interface, offline tolerance, real stock tracking, credit/khata management, proper receipts, data export, local payment options, and human support. A solid retail POS software in Pakistan starts at Rs 1,499 a month — if anyone quotes you Rs 80,000 "one-time" plus annual charges, walk away. Start with a 15-day free trial, no card.

How to Choose Billing Software in Pakistan: 9-Point Checklist (2026)

Every software salesman will tell you his product is "complete solution" and "fully automatic." Most shopkeepers in Rawalpindi, Peshawar and Karachi have heard this speech, paid the money, and ended up back on the register within 6 months. This checklist is the filter. Run any software — ours included — through these 9 points before you pay a rupee.

1. Honest, simple pricing

The price should fit in one sentence: "Rs 1,499 per month, everything included." Be suspicious of: one-time charges of Rs 50,000–150,000, "module" fees that unlock basic features, per-bill charges, and annual maintenance contracts you discover later. Ask directly: "Is mein sab kuch included hai, ya kuch alag se lagega?" If the answer needs a brochure, walk away.

2. Urdu interface — not as a favour, as standard

Your salesman, your munshi and half your customers think in Urdu. If the software's menus, product names and receipts cannot run in Urdu, your staff will resist it daily until you give up. This is the number one reason billing software fails in Pakistani shops — not features, language. Test it: can the least educated person on your counter make a bill in under 2 minutes? Read more in our guide to Urdu POS software in Pakistan.

3. Works through internet problems

Pakistani internet is Pakistani internet — it drops. The software must keep billing during short disconnections and sync when the connection returns. Ask for a live demo: pull the Wi-Fi cable mid-bill and watch what happens. If the salesman looks nervous, you have your answer.

4. Real stock tracking, not just billing

Billing-only software is a fancy calculator. The value is in stock: every sale reduces stock automatically, every purchase increases it, and the system warns before items run out. Ask: "Agar meri 500 items hain, to system batayega kaunsi khatam honay wali hai?" If it cannot answer per-item, it is not stock software.

5. Credit and khata management

Udhaar is not a feature in Pakistan — it is the business. Customer balances, supplier payables, partial payments, aging (who owes since how long): all must be built in, not "coming soon." Check how a partial payment is recorded. If it takes more than 30 seconds, your munshi will stop using it.

6. Receipts your customers accept

Thermal receipts for retail counters, A4 invoices for wholesale and institutional buyers, Urdu or English as you choose. A pharmacy, a restaurant and a marble yard need different receipt formats — see pharmacy software in Pakistan and restaurant management software in Pakistan for how formats differ by trade. Ask to print a sample before buying.

7. Your data leaves when you do

You must be able to export everything — products, customers, sales, stock — to Excel at any time, with no permission needed and no fee. This is your insurance. Any company that locks your data is telling you exactly how they plan to treat you later.

8. Pay the way Pakistan pays

If the only payment option is an international credit card, the company does not understand its market. JazzCash, Easypaisa and bank transfer should work, with a simple receipt-based approval. You should never need a dollar card to run a shop in Multan.

9. A human answers when you call

Software breaks, staff forgets, printers misbehave — usually at 8pm during the rush. Test support before buying: call the number, send a WhatsApp message, time the reply. A company with no reachable support is selling you a future headache, whatever the demo looked like.

The 15-day test

Do not decide in the salesman's office. Take the free trial — 15 days, no card — and run your real shop on it. Enter 50 products, bill real customers, close the day, check the reports. By day 10 you will know more than any demo could teach you.

Frequently asked questions

Should I buy the expensive "lifetime" software instead of monthly?

Do the math: Rs 120,000 one-time plus Rs 20,000 yearly "support" versus Rs 1,499/month with support included. The monthly option is cheaper for 6+ years, stays updated, and you can leave anytime.

How long does setup realistically take?

For a typical retail shop: one day for products (import from Excel if you have it), one afternoon to train staff, and you are billing live. Complex businesses — wholesale, pharmacy — take 3–5 days.

Can I use it on my existing computer and printer?

If you have a basic laptop or desktop and any thermal or normal printer, yes. There is no special hardware to buy. Start with what you have; upgrade the printer later if you want faster receipts.

What happens to my data if I stop paying?

Your data is never deleted as punishment. The account becomes view-only so you can export everything, and you can reactivate whenever you are ready. Read the exact terms before you sign up anywhere — this is point 7 in action.

Is my business data safe from other shops using the same software?

Every shop's data is fully separated — your stock, customers and sales are visible only to your logins. This is standard multi-tenant design: shared system, private data. Ask any vendor how they separate customer data; a vague answer is a red flag.
